Familjen Australian release digipak conversion

Familjen Australian release digipak conversion

Over the last few years there’s been a trend toward the digipak for CD packaging. Not only does a digipak look great but there’s nothing worse than CD jewel cases cracking (especially when a band’s on tour and the merch gets knocked around in the back of a van).

I’m often asked to convert existing jewel case releases to digipaks for bands and/or artists and also for international license pressings. Converting jewel case artwork isn’t as simple as it sounds either … the jewel case booklet (which includes the cover) is a different shape to the front of a digipak and in many cases designers have utilised the left-hand side window on the jewel case as an element for their design, so the whole job needs to be assessed carefully. It’s important to discuss all of these elements with the client so they understand how things can be improved or enhanced to fit the digipak format.

There are lots of other options you can consider when moving to the digipak format—do you need a four-panel digipak with a booklet; do you want a booklet and how many pages did you want it; did you want to try to fit all the artwork into a six- or eight-panel digipak with no booklet; did you want to add a bonus disc and tray for the digipak release to add value; did you want embossing, spot or full gloss, matte finish, brown ‘recycled look’ packaging, foil or metallic ink, and/or shrinkwrapping (looks super professional with digipaks).

If you’re sick of finding your expensive CDs broken at the bottom of the merch bag or you’ve simply got a jewel case you want converted so it looks exciting for a repress, contact me and I’ll help you get on your way to ultra cool packaging.
